Why plumbers in particular
Plumbing generates more Facebook group posts than any trade except HVAC, and the posts are unusually easy to qualify. A homeowner rarely posts about plumbing out of curiosity. Something is leaking, something is backed up, or something has just quoted them four thousand dollars and they want to know if that is fair.
The tickets are smaller than roofing or solar, which changes the maths but not the case. A plumbing client does not need one job a month to justify exclusive coverage, they need a steady handful, and the volume in a decent county supports far more than that. The other thing plumbing has going for it is that emergency work converts into relationships: the person whose water heater you replaced on a Sunday calls you for the bathroom remodel eighteen months later.

They do not all convert the same way, and they do not all need the same reply. Knowing which is which is most of the job.

The single most common plumbing post there is. Usually leaking, usually the homeowner already knows it needs replacing, and usually awarded within a day. Straightforward, repeatable work.

A homeowner has a number in hand and is asking the group whether it sounds right. Answering these with a straight opinion rather than a pitch wins a surprising amount of work.

Older housing stock produces steady repipe and sewer replacement questions. These are the five-figure plumbing jobs and the homeowner will get three bids, so being one of the first names matters.

Timing
Plumbing emergencies are decided in minutes. Water is actively causing damage while the homeowner types, so they call the first number they get and stop reading the thread. There is no second place. Even on non-urgent posts like water heaters, the first two recommendations get the calls, because a homeowner reading eleven comments simply picks the ones near the top with agreement underneath them.
Seasonality
The first hard freeze is the plumbing equivalent of a hailstorm, and burst pipe posts arrive in a wave over about 48 hours. Spring brings sewer and drain work as ground saturates, and the weeks around major holidays reliably produce disposal and drain backups. Plumbing questions
Plumbing runs high because the failure modes are common. In a metro county of about 1.5 million people we typically see 180 to 280 requests a month across local groups. Water heaters and drain issues make up the largest share, with repipes and sewer work forming the high-ticket tail.
It works on volume rather than ticket size. At an average job around four thousand dollars, four jobs a month covers the programme, and the request volume in most metro counties supports considerably more than that. Emergency plumbing customers also return, which compounds over a year.
Local Facebook groups are overwhelmingly residential, so that is where the volume is. Occasionally a small business owner posts about a property they own and we treat that like any other request. If your business is primarily commercial, this is probably not the right channel for you.
Then you already know the channel works. This is the same mechanism, running continuously and at county scale, instead of depending on which of your past customers happens to be reading the group that day. Most of our plumbing clients came in exactly this way.
